Map Data
Last updated: 5 October 2026
The maps in Collaro, and the dog parks shown on them, are based on data from OpenStreetMap. This page explains where that data comes from, the licence it is available under, and how Collaro uses it.
1. OpenStreetMap and the Open Database License
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0; the OpenStreetMap copyright and licence page sets out its terms. The map imagery is © CARTO, drawn from OpenStreetMap data.
Nothing in our Terms of Service limits the rights the ODbL gives you in this data.
2. The Dog-Park Data in the App
The dog parks shown on the map are the OpenStreetMap features tagged
leisure=dog_park in the area Collaro serves. About once a
day our servers download them from the Overpass API (a service for
querying OpenStreetMap data) and keep a copy, and the app shows the
parks from that copy. The app does not contact OpenStreetMap or the
Overpass API to show dog parks.
For each park our copy keeps only its OpenStreetMap identifier, its name (where it has one) and a single point: the park’s position, or for a park mapped as an area, the centre point that the Overpass API calculates. Names have control characters and extra spaces removed and are shortened to at most 120 characters. Nothing else is changed, and no data from other sources is added. The query we use is:
[out:json][timeout:60][maxsize:33554432];
nwr["leisure"="dog_park"](29.45,34.2,33.35,35.9);
out tags center qt;
3. Getting the Data
The same data is available free of charge from OpenStreetMap — for example by running the query above on the Overpass API. Our copy of the dog-park data is available under the ODbL; to receive it, contact us at contact@collaro.app.
